NEW DIRECTOR SET ON MAKING REGION B SPARKLE

There is a new captain at the helm of Region B in the City of Joburg who promises more interaction with residents.
Mohau Ntheli, who is 43 years old, started his tenure last month. This father of two hails from the Free State and he joins us from the Setsotso Local Municipality where he was Director Community Services from May 2012 to October 2017 and was recently appointed as Director of Corporate Services in December 2017 before joining the City in March 2018.
Ntheli is under no illusion as to the huge challenges that await him in the city of gold. As the Regional Director, he is tasked to become the eyes, ears, mouth and activator on issues of service delivery, citizen relationship and urban management. This he has to do by forming partnerships and mobilising citizens, NGOs, ratepayers and residents associations in achieving his goals.
“I believe we have to mobilise community participation in the region, we need to support the implementation of the City’s service delivery programme in the Region and I will also have to provide advice to management and leadership on all issues pertaining to the Region.
“I have been here for a very short time but already I am becoming acutely aware of the challenges and problems facing the region. We are probably the most diverse of the seven regions in the City. Our region is basically divided into a northern and a southern section – each faced with its own unique challenges – the more affluent Northern section is well established but is faced with seriously ageing infrastructure, poor maintenance and massive service delivery backlogs.
“In the south you have decaying suburbs, massive crime and grime, a huge drug problem, the headache of illegal student accommodation and of course the other bane of my life – illegal dumping which not only takes place in our region but is a massive problem throughout the City.
​“I will embark on a programme shortly where I want to engage with ratepayers and residents associations, ward committees and other stakeholders so that we can meet face to face and form relationships to jointly tackle the problems facing our Region.
“I believe that we are the change that we want to see in our Region and change is possible if we work together.”
Ntheli holds a B Admin (Hons) and a Master’s in Public Administration both from the University of the Free State​.
